I mean, he was very successful for a time. But he very literally didn't finish the war he started with the Byzantines - he lost almost all of his gains and ended up executed by his son who immediately reached an unfavorable peace with Heraclius.

One way to identify a bad idea is to find the places were the extremely successful groups still struggled to achieve success. That a super-successful group can succeed at high cost is not a great endorsement.
