Oddly, it does better - even in parody - working within the rules of the Star Trek universe than Discovery or Picard do. Even while making fun, it is oddly more 'respectful' of the older material. It was clearly made with a lot of love; PIC and DIS often don't feel that way.
I am hoping that a second season will balance out the time and character development to give Rutherford and Tendi as much focus as Boimler and Mariner. Also - more old cast cameos! Even brief appearances from, say, the DS9 or VOY cast would be delightful.
My wife and I just started watching, and I had a similar reaction, it clearly loves Star Trek, which is endearing. But it’s also nice to have a funny cartoon thats not as nihilistic as say an archer or a rick and morty, being good is fun too!
