I am put in mind of some Cicero by the @BMCReview today:Audieram etiam quae de orationis ipsius ornamentis traderentur in qua praecipitur primum ut pure et Latine loquamur deinde ut plane et dilucide tum ut ornate post ad rerum dignitatem apte et quasi decore(Cic. De or. 1.144).

Trans: "I have also heard of those things which give distinction to speech itself, in which first it is undertaken that we speak in pure and correct Latin, then plainly and clearly, then elegantly and finally, in a way apt and, so to say, fittingly, to our subject.
