The number of kids doing full virtual or homeschooling this year has certainly brought down density, followed by hybrid models etc. Fully packed classes as cases go up... do you really want to take the risk of trusting these reports to be universal and binding?
To be fair, given the pros and cons, I'd sacrifice a *lot* of other activities if it would bring down transmissions levels enough to get schools fully open. On the balance, if the price of open schools is closed bars, restaurants & movie theaters, I think we should do it.
I think one of the challenges though is that it seems people are jonesin' to get "back to normal". Every signal in that direction is just going to make some people want to push harder. I don't know how this society opens schools in a reasonable manner but not lose the edge.
