Not sure I see the benefit of the hamburger analogy. I see the value of rigid writing systems for writers beginning with a style who don't yet really understand it. I think expressing it as a 'hamburger' prioritizes sentence order, rather than a chain of thinking.

My own homegrown analogy is the 'three-beat waltz of assertion, evidence and conclusion' - probably not much better. Beat 1: assert your point. Beat 2: present your evidence. Beat 3: explain the broader significance of your assertion, now proved.

I sometimes worry that the clever analogies and rigid systems are an effort to get around the proven but labor-intensive, teaching method of telling students "this is how you do it; this is why you do it that way" and then making them do it a bunch, correcting them when they err.
