Of course it is frustrating to see that shift take so long.
But it is also worth noting - as @anneapplebaum (?) noted recently - it is rare for countries to throw autocratic populists out after just one term.
If we get rid of him, we'll have done something unusual.
I'm not sure that is because Americans have any particular virtue, but we lucked out with the dumbest, least capable autocratic populist. Yet hopefully, as in other cases, the close call serves as an inoculation against more capable ones. A bit of the ol' 'special providence.'
