It is really striking and more than a bit frustrating how it seems that functionally everyone is operating on the presumption that news about the president's health cannot be trusted. This is why lying a lot is bad! Sometimes you need to be able to relay trusted information!
To be clear, I offer no opinions on the president's health. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I have no special information, save that this kind of hide-the-ball-everything-is-fine health reports more often mark autocracies than democracies (but occur in both).
Yeah, it's depressing just how common "light your credibility on fire to win a news cycle" has become. Trump is the grandmaster of it, of course, but everyone from news outlets to public health agencies have gotten in on it. Is honesty really that hard? (Sigh...)
That's the thing though, what does Trump's administration care that we can't trust news of his health? His cult of personality will all believe the best by default, and what matter is it to them if the rest of us are in suspense?
