Great advice. Leaving academia also doesn't have to be a disaster. For some people it can be one of the best decisions they every make.
It's hard for me to explicitly advise leaving academia when I haven't and don't really intend to. But I agree that it shouldn't be a disaster to leave academia. Especially when academia is such a disaster.
Of course, you don't want to be prescriptive when everyone's situation is different. In my experience at least, there tends to be a stigma about leaving academia in academic quarters and there doesn't need to be. There is a lot of intellectually stimulating work out there.
