I think that’s the misplaced assumption here.
Dear designers of education software: assume every question on every assessment will be manually graded and then design your instructor-facing UI on that assumption.

Software like Blackboard is so bad because it's designed by a committee of administrators. They have a huge list of features and approve whatever ticks all the boxes, without doing a single usability study. Hard to convince them they dont NEED all this complexity.
