To be clear, this isn't to say Plutarch is worthless as a source. I actually credit Plutarch with more accuracy here than others would (

But Plutarch has functionally no information about the historical Lycurgus. Where he makes claims we can *test* about 8th/7th century Sparta (as cf. to 4th cent. Sparta), he's clearly wrong! If Lycurgus was a real person, *we know nothing about him.*
