And yes - as I understand it, the reason it does this is because the algorithms use machine learning and get trained on mostly or exclusively white faces because software design isn't a diverse field, it seems. Which, to be clear, is not great!
As other people explain in the thread - the key is contrast and edge detection. Adding glasses to Obama made the twitter center on Obama.
