PSA:The word 'god,' like other nouns in English, is capitalized when it is used as a name, but not when it is used as a classification. Thus the God of the Bible (because it is His name), but the god Zeus (his name is Zeus) one of the Greek gods. Just felt the need to note that.
Some students may be uncomfortable, due to religious beliefs, writing the 'god' out at all. As far as I know, religious prohibitions against writing the word in full only apply to use as a name, but recommend 'deity' to replace classification usage if students are uncomfortable.

Depends on how you're using "the god of the Bible." You could construct a sentence where "the god of the Bible" is referring to one of many gods of interest.
“Are you there, God, it’s me, Margaret” is using “God” as a name. But “The god of the Bible is very different from the gods of Olympus” is contrasting dieties without mentioning any names.
I have a 1970s Russian phrasebook published in the UK that says that it follows then-current Soviet orthography *except* that it capitalises words like Бог and Тройца (God and Trinity).

I personally believe in one of these gods and not the other. Naturally as a teaching matter, reverential capitalization (the technical term for this) is up to the student. I won't correct it either way, the same way I won't require nor correct against a 'PBUH' for Muhammed, etc.
You make a really good point about how the hermeneutic of history breaks down as language creates new ambiguities. A friend and I were talking about why phrases like “blowing smoke up your arse” have forgotten contexts. An inelegant comparison, but I’ve made my point.
