I disliked "Things Fall Apart" when I first read it mostly because it was presented as a one-sided tale of colonial oppression. I was surprised re-reading it as an adult to come to realize that Achebe is as harshly critical of Okonkwo and Umuofia's society as he is the foreigners
...and that it was a much richer and more complex assessment of the entire tragedy.
