In what sense? As a speaker, sure. He has the voice. But as a journalist, I think this was possible, but the circumstances of his departure from CBS in '06 foreclosed any such opportunity. His career is always going to have that asterisk.

It's why the current story on Trump is more impactful. Rather paid for getting the story on Bush wrong. If you are going to write about Trump's derision of veterans, sourcing better be tight. I'm sure Atlantic wrung the author through the wringer before hitting send.

Yeah, to be clear, I am quite confident in The Atlantic's reporting. I have been through their fact-check system! Trump has said very nearly the same thing in public from time to time, there's no reason to assume he doesn't in private.
