It's easy to clown on 'politically correct'/academic ways of recasting and transforming ordinary speech, but the intellectual and moral impact on prose when you shift away from "slave" towards "[enslaved] person" (and associated changes in usage) is genuinely immense.
Yes! I am old fashioned in a lot of my usage, but 'enslaved person' or 'enslaved laborers' is one where I have tried to switch over completely. Oh, and if I never see the phrase 'slave girl' used to describe non-free adult women, it will be too damn soon. Just ick.

It seems banal but the knock-on effects of speaking in terms of labor and people are paradigm-breaking! Read a modern work on US slavery that uses "labor camps" - or even "migrant labor camps" - in lieu of "plantations" and it's hard not to have your thinking transformed by it
