I can probably get away with it 'cause applied math is like one of exactly 2-3 good PhDs in existence rn, but good god almost all doctorates are crap rn.

The other good PhDs are Statistics and Economics. Maybe an AI-focused Comp Sci one counts, but it's pushing it.
