Given the numbers, the chances that there aren't quite a few who are sick is very low. But even if they wanted to, the universities couldn't really tell you - getting into individual students would be a violation of HIPAA and also possibly FERPA.
So the schools are actually very limited, by federal law, in what they can and cannot say I know folks angry that schools won't say more than students 'in this dorm' were positive, etc. But often they are legally unable to say more. I can't say how much; historian, not lawyer.
