this is a good thread but one thing it misses: adjuncts aren’t bad for universities bc they’re worse teachers (they’re not)—it’s that they aren’t paid a living wage or to *do research*. gotcha—completely agree! Adjuncts are under-resourced & underpaid, so it would make total sense if what they were able to do pedagogically was not as good... & yet, what I’ve seen from both sides of the tenure track is they’re often better than some very seasoned tenured profs

In the future reset you suggest, the exhausted adjuncts who have not kept an aggressive research output while under resourced and teaching 6-10 classes per year will not get the new TT lines. New graduates will get those, at the bottom of pay scale and top of potential/energy.
