But the same time, that rush of student grant funding is split itself over more students - my impression is that enrollments in 2010-2011 were higher than '06-'08. So to get that grant money you have to stretch it over more students, which further strains instructional?
Well that's good. It sure as hell doesn't *feel* like it - and I wonder how of that is PhDs flowing into admin jobs. But then that's the space I'm stuck in right now - job market froze up on me due to COVID so I'm in a holding pattern - so that might effect my impression.

Although, looking at that data, I wonder how much that also reflects the emergence of two-tier departments with teaching-track and research-track 'full time' professors.

I've seen that, but I've also seen folks who taught well get pushed in that direction because they couldn't take the precarity's effect on family/etc. I gotta pack it in - have to teach it tomorrow - but would enjoy chatting more about this.
