Obviously in-classroom face-to-face is so, so much better for students and for instructor...but I was just so convinced and remain so convinced that fully face-to-face wasn't going to last with large classes this term. Unfortunately, I think I was right about that :(

earnestly: why are faces required? I took many digital classes as a disabled student by communicating via text with other students and my teachers via forums or instant messaging, and found doing so enabled me to speak up when social anxiety would prevent me otherwise.

I don't require it! I know some students may not like it, or not have cameras, or not be in a situation where they can. I asked nicely for those who could to do so, 'cause seeing faces lets me 'read the room.' I can *see* when a lecture point hasn't landed, or when it has.
