I would suggest making public facing front ends for news agencies - but those already exist: http://reuters.com and others.
It seems to me it might do everyone involved quite a bit of good if we split up the 'news' function of newspapers from their editorial/opinion pages into different companies/publications.

Trouble with this is if you split off the editorializing and opinions from the newspapers, quite a few publications will only be left with weather forecasts.

I can appreciate an amount of objectivity in journalism. It’s relatively recent though, and not a fair standard for every publication. What would really help is beefing up editorial staff/oversight. Sadly the money isn’t there for most pubs.
