The "do you prefer colonialism or ethnic cleansing" dilemma of Skyrim was particularly rough. It seems a more clearly pro-empire thing, but that's partially because the Empire appears to be a tributary-empire that doesn't extract any actual tribute?

Well, I felt the Stormcloaks and Knights were explicitly depicted as nationalist xenophobes, (for the Knights more racist in F4, but always authoritarian), and that this made them un- or at least less sympathetic. Inflexible, xenophobic knights seem kind of a common trope to me?
