I get that expenses seem to fill a 'container' of any size so nobody ever feels like they have enough, but some people you just want to shake and say "if you're not well-off then the rest of us live in a post-apocalyptic hellscape"
Oh, very much so. But at the same time, I get that it can be hard if you don't actually look at the statistics. It never really landed to me how affluent my upbringing was until I started benchmarking my family against the statistics while in college...
Listen if you start in college that's a lot better than some
Oh, I have had some fun discussions with folks who have six figure household incomes in states that are well below the average income for the USA trying to explain that yes, in fact, I thought they counted as 'elites.' Double-advanced degree households, too. :;eyeroll::
...trying to figure out why my public high school experience seemed to prepare me so much better for college than my classmates. To be fair, I think my parents we-are-not-rich mantra (we were 'doing ok' or 'well off' but never 'rich) was a laudable effort at egalitarianism...
...but it could be unintentionally reality warping. "You are not better than other people" was a good lesson. But so was "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded."
