Nature of the evidence makes statistical comparisons of deaths impossible - too many battles without casualty reports, or where casualty reports are unreliable. But use militarization (% pop under arms per year) as a proxy, and yes, supported by data.
Maybe. Evidence for lethality on that kind of warfare is complex though - it's typically paired with hyper-lethal raiding and ambushing, resulting in much *higher* military mortality than state-on-state. See ch1 of Gat's War in Human Civilization for the details.

I can’t remember the author, but I once heard armored aristoi described as “mobile towers” around which promachoi clustered. Like the mothership sending out fighters in sci-fi space combat. This would be a “set piece” battle, distinct from the raids you describe.
