Hollywood silliness, as far as I can tell. He goes from line to column, then back to line, but split - and then gets enveloped. Verbruggen has a good section on cavalry commands and the conduct of battle. It's sophisticated, but not complex.
If there are fancy maneuvers, they are in trying to strike the flank of an opposing cavalry group, protect your own flank, or wheeling about to strike against after you've charged through. A formation might loosen and tighten, but really complex formation changes, no.
