Military and Milhist twitter - question! I am aware of the debate around risk compensation in automotive safety (meaning make the car safer, drivers speed up, 'consuming' the safety). Are there studies of this re: modern body armor?
So far, I've found a study on this that indicates there is an increase in aggressiveness in combat, but for the Korean War. Surely there has to be something more recent than that looking into the psychological, rather than physiological effects of armor?
In my limited experience I can tell you grunts prefer armor as light as humanly possible. In most cases we prefer mobility to coverage because mobility is usually a far better source of security in a fight. Plate carriers > IBA/IOTV, etc.
Yeah, I am absolutely addressing weight and mobility as well. Clearly a very important thing. Just looking for data on psychological effects of wearing armor, if it exists.
