So far, I've found a study on this that indicates there is an increase in aggressiveness in combat, but for the Korean War. Surely there has to be something more recent than that looking into the psychological, rather than physiological effects of armor?

Medical techniques allowing conversion of what would have been combat deaths into injuries, ramping up the 'amputation' budget? War now affects fewer people for a longer period of time, making it more 'palatable' to the public?
-
I'm thinking on the individual soldier level - taking greater risks and showing more aggression because body armor reduces (but obviously does not eliminate) the chance of taking a lethal wound from enemy fire.

I would think there has to be something out there that pushed the army from the IBA I wore on my first tour (Iraq) to the IOTV that I wore my second tour (AF) to the light plate carrier I wore the third tour (AF).
-
Many individual infantry units had unofficial SOPs to lighten their loads, especially the IOTV in Afghanistan to handle the terrain. I think what's most interesting is how developments in the field like this influenced "big army" decisions about equipment.

Anecdote from a friend: "Many of my instructors, private and military, taught me to compact and square my body directly to where rounds are coming from in order to maximize the protective potential of the SAPI plate. Essentially, always face the enemy chest first."

"but that advice is also always secondary to "get behind something strong""
