There’s a lot of Twitter sentiment telling people they don’t have to be productive now. Agreed, but for me productivity is a coping strategy for depression/anxiety. Being productive generates hope. It is also okay to drive yourself to distraction with work if that’s what you need

I have to admit, in the academic world, I see those "you don't need to be productive" messages, but I quite frankly doubt that the same people will be so understanding when you have one less article than the other candidate going for a job. Sucks, but it's the truth.

FWIW, natural sciences R&D hiring criteria includes collaboration. Might be worth reaching out at this time and be a lead or co-author.

Quite the reverse in history, alas. As a rule of thumb, hiring and tenure committees tend to divide a publication by the number of authors - so a co-authored book counts as 'half' a book for hiring or tenure purposes.

It may be the differences in disciplines. In earth sci we look for collaborators add meaningfully value and can lead. We’re doing a lot of work that becomes interdisciplinary including computationally complex.
