There’s a lot of Twitter sentiment telling people they don’t have to be productive now. Agreed, but for me productivity is a coping strategy for depression/anxiety. Being productive generates hope. It is also okay to drive yourself to distraction with work if that’s what you need

Quite the reverse in history, alas. As a rule of thumb, hiring and tenure committees tend to divide a publication by the number of authors - so a co-authored book counts as 'half' a book for hiring or tenure purposes.

I worry about this, particularly given the likely scarcity of jobs, but does that warrant giving into the worst tendencies of academic life? If work is a coping strategy, that is one thing, but I suspect that "just one more publication" is a myth past a certain point.

Oh sure. I am just frustrated with folks whose positions are secure giving advice which they can take, but which is almost certainly damaging for people whose positions are precarious. And then, of course, taking no effort to fix that sorry state of affairs.
