It's clear that Trump has uncritically boosted messaging from the Chinese government, because he is a buffoon and will accept anything said to him in a chummy way. But if hitting him on this forces you into jingoism, racism, and Cold War posturing, you gotta pass that one up!
So - serious question: what would be your preferred US posture towards the PRC? I mean, assuming the PRC retains its current leadership, expansionist policy, undermines freedom globally, continues to debt-vassalize developing countries, etc.
I think it's possible and even desirable to criticize the PRC and work against it in any number of areas without using "the Chinese" as a boogeyman in political ads designed to outflank Trump on his right and suggest that he, of all people, ought to be more brash and aggressive.
I am profoundly uninterested in the Democratic Party triangulating its policy positions, on the basis of Trump's stupidity and deference to authoritarian leaders, in ways that amount, at least rhetorically, to "we are the war party that America REALLY needs."
