I have to say, I'm ambivalent on mask wearing outside of hospitals. Myself, I'm uncomfortable with widespread mask wearing in public. It feels wrong to me. But my feelings aren't worth other people's lives. If the experts think masks work, we should get folks masks for public...
...once we can make enough. But for now it seems like there isn't widespread agreement by doctors and experts that widespread mask wearing would help. But countries where masks are common (Japan, Korea, Taiwan) have had better outcomes...

From what I heard, Japan, Korea & Taiwan all had previous experience with a recent outbreak (SRAS, I think), so they knew how to deal with it (and not just with masks)
as an European, wearing masks in public feels wrong too. But since there's not enough of them for the general public right now, so I don't that's something that's going to be put in action soon
