I haven't been keeping abreast of UK news as carefully as I would like, is it really case that the government basically came right out and said "our official plan is that you all get coronavirus"

So, 1) my understanding is that the UK's response has not been viewed well by experts (of which I am not one) but 2) basically everyone's plan is 'everyone gets coronavirus,' with the only question being 'how fast'
Cause you need to develop herd immunity somehow. The backup plan is 'wait for a vaccine' but the experts seem to be saying that's 18 months off, and no one expects that you can keep a society on full social distancing that long.

Well sure but even in view of what's clearly going to eventually be mass infection, "if we do absolutely nothing we shall outsmart this infection by sheer pluck" seemed a little...bad
