A colleague of mine finishing up her dissertation on animals in Greek warfare had come in to talk about elephants, already, so they were primed for this.
What a fascinating dissertation topic! It really is actually quite under-studied, I think (and I note it in the essay linked above).

I've had some interesting conversations with her about this––she has a requisite chapter on horses, but then goes into dogs, elephants, and camels (at the least).

I struggle to communicate how exciting that topic is, and how much I think that a treatment like that, dealing with all of those animals together is a desideratum. I look forward, hopefully, to reading it in full publication (or at least in ProQuest form)!
