It might well go the other way, as concentration is a virtue of the offensive. That said, I suspect that any difference in the two is likely to be lost in the noise of the data in terms of resource/manpower availability.
What if we limited it by region, or period, or campaign?
So, I'm thinking how I'd do it, for say, something like the 2nd Punic. And it gets complicated fast. Are we looking at overall deployments or individual armies? What operations are offensive or defensive?
