I don't normally do politics here, but I must note that Dershowitz' argument that a president might do anything to get himself re-elected (since he would view that as being in the public interest) is *exactly* the sort of thing that lead to the fall of the Roman Republic...

...every step in the fall of the Republic was paved by this self-serving justification. The murders of the Gracchi, of Marius' 7th consulship, the proscriptions of Sulla, etc, etc., all of it was justified this way. Shame on them for making this tyrant's argument.

The quote, so I am not taking anyone out of context, by Dershowitz was, “If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment.” Shame.
