@BretDevereaux I'm looking for good resources on viking weaponry (specifically shields). I want to try to build a shield myself. Any suggestions?

Perhaps T. Diskinson and H. Harke, Early Anglo-Saxon Shields (1992); obviously, Anglo-Saxon, not Viking, but the construction is similar. They have some detailed diagrams and measurements. In terms of learning how to construct, I haven't done that (want to).
But you might consider Roland Warzecha's reconstruction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-DDWp3AoeI …). You might also check Tod Todeschini's stuff (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcW3nL684jE …); he makes them professionally (https://todsworkshop.com/ )
