@BretDevereaux @MykeCole Sorry if this is way down in the weeds. Is a flanged mace intended to hit with a flange perpendicular to the armor or offset by 45 degrees? Seems like the flanges are more useful in preventing glancing blows than focusing energy...

The flanged maces I've seen have circular handles. In a lot of weapons where edge-alignment is critically important, the handles frequently - but by no means always - have edges or are ovals to let you *feel* the edge alignment.
Makes me think @medievalguy is right here.
