I love your blog and I'm definitely going to read the post over the weekend, but right now my biggest concern is how you pronounce the c in "Thuc."
So, Thuc. is the Oxford Classical Dictionary standard abbreviation for Thucydides. But in terms of pronunciation, well, his name is actually θουκυδίδης, Thu-cu-di-des (with the 'e' in 'des' sounding like the 'ai' in 'wait'). So yes, Thuc. would rhyme with that other word.

Note that the same name in modern Greek will sound closer to Thu-ci-VI-ves, because some of the phonetic values have shifted.
