Just finished writing that book. went off to the publisher yesterday.
Simpson comes close to saying this in Ch1 of War from the Ground Up. I actually found that frustrating - spent the whole 'language of war' chapter waiting for that shoe to drop (good chapter though). Glad for the idea make print somewhere I can cite it relentlessly.

Simpson's book is remarkably good, and I riff on some of his insights in various places.

I just grabbed it out of the library last week or so, and have just started working my way through. Have to hold up the Classicist reputation of being a half-decade behind the times!
