From this piece I learned of Sohrab Ahmari's claim that "every kind of mainstream media power is behind" Drag Queen Story Hour, a thing virtually no one had ever heard of until Ahmari himself hauled it headlong into the discourse. https://newrepublic.com/article/154977/right-wings-cultural-civil-war-drag …

One of the things I would most like to telepathically glean is how sincere the American right are in their conviction that trivial culture-war indignities outweigh actual institutional power exercised by them out of all proportion with their democratic legitimacy for forty years.

Obligatory self-plug: I assessed some of the more distant history Ahmari bases his worldview on. His grasp on history is...it's not great.https://acoup.blog/2019/09/07/new-acquisitions-class-status-and-the-early-church/ …

Ah I saw this! Frankly, I found this a totally puzzling error on his part. Yes, research into the social demography of the early church is ongoing, of course - but if anything the direction of revisionism has normally been "of course, not EVERY early Christian was dirt-poor."

"Some of them were even average Roman cobblers, rather than marginalized women, foreigners, freedmen or slaves!" Yeah, I'm just baffled as to what gave him the impression that it was an 'elite phenomenon.' But it seems to deeply inform his political philosophy.
