I'm already so excited for when Star Trek: Picard makes Picard angry and traumatized by the kind of thing we've already seen him cope with in the TV show and then I get told this is Good and Cool because it's More Real

I have to admit, I feel a touch confused by it. From the trailer, it is Picard coping with trauma in a vineyard. Which was already exactly the plot of what I consider one of Trek's best episodes, "Family" (TNG S4E2).

It was already egregious enough that they did First Contact, frankly, given the sensitive and ultimately affirming way the TV series shows him reckoning with the Borg trauma. From the way people talk about their hopes for the new show you'd honestly think this had never happened.

(First Contact: sweet movie, reprehensible perversion of the series' immensely superior handling of exactly the same moral and personal questions.)
