Didn't George W Bush try this? And didn't he have to rescind the tariffs after a sort period?

In 2002, Bush 43 placed tariffs on steel. They were lifted in 2003 (two years early) because they cost US jobs and GDP. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/969183644756660224 …

Significant tariffs on Mexico could force then to help control illegals pouring over our Southern border. They put out public information on how to get into America & once here how to sign up for welfare programs & what to do if ICE knocks on your door!

Well it would hurt temporarily, but a lot of US Steel is produced in Canada and Canada is the third largest producer of aluminum and we have a free trade deal with the EU....so I expect this won't hurt for long. How are those lumber tariffs working out LOL

For every 1 US steelworker, there are 45 US workers in jobs that use steel (builders, carmakers, etc). Import tariffs will drive up their costs, passed on to consumers, decreased demand, and job losses.https://twitter.com/mickimaynard/status/969185628394020864?s=21 …

It's CHINA who holds our economy in jeopardy. CHINA could put a stop to it at anytime. If we don't get form under their thumb, we will never be free. Take care of the debt and social security. Then companies must come home. Stop empowering China.

According to NPR, this morning, this is the "lighter" version; they were considering tariffs as high as 50% on steel. Regardless, this is a poor way to deal with issues that are supposed to be governed by the WTO.

well, you can't control what socialist, communist, dictators do. But a free society should always use fully free trade. china hurts its own people when it adds tariffs. Now we are doing the same.

instead of raising taxes ,the gov't should try either lowering taxes. That's what the gov't should do.
