Before you think smart & beautiful infrastructure investment is only a Dutch thing — here’s Calgary’s stunning Calatrava-designed Peace Bridge for walkers & bike-riders. Initially controversial for its cost in a conservative city, it’s been a brilliant investment. Other examples?pic.twitter.com/jOepqQe1qg
This is gorgeous! But from the drivers perspective, all roads look the same. Here we see what they are missing...
This is so beautiful. Where is it?
Harderwijk, province of Gelderland.
We've lost it a bit though. ex 1: gouwe aquaduct, opened in 1981, next to it Amaliabrug, opened in 2016. ex 2: Betuweroute (dedicated freight railway) tunnel under Nederrijn, opened 2007. Plans well underway to build a highway parallel to it with a bridge. source =google maps.pic.twitter.com/clBxjH66Qj
Looks wrong. I think the aquaduct in the photo is this onepic.twitter.com/t1o1wsDm9i
That's nothing. You see that coloured in mass of land on the map. That used to be the bottom of a sea. And that water used to be a turbulent sea and is now a lake. Picture is high resolution satellite image. It pisses me off they wont do this anymore because of the environmentpic.twitter.com/Q7MqkPAsDR
You see that bit of lake to the left of the dike connecting Lelystad to Enkhuizen? That was also supposed to be turned into land so we could build a new national airport. They refused for Environmental Reasons, and now Schiphol is too large and polluting.
That messed with my brain for a second, couldn't work out where the "bridge" was .....
It's Not a bridge, it's a very short Tunnel
