Density is still too high and is still too dangerous. We are closing the NYC playgrounds because they are too crowded. Open spaces will remain open for fresh air and sun. Stay six feet apart. Stop the spread.

Agree. Taiwan is 14x denser than USA but has a fraction of the cases USA has.

Umm not the best example! We have no idea what the real figures were .

Friendly reminder that the countries doing the best at handling the coronavirus outbreak like SK and Japan are highly urbanized and densely populated. And the two with the absolute flattest curves are both CITIES!pic.twitter.com/lnz1ooYbO2

In NYC the cases of COVID do not seem to correlate with density. Suburban areas appear to have the highest infection rates: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/01/nyregion/nyc-coronavirus-cases-map.html … Per capita the rates are still low in many dense areas, & these areas have many needed services for city's overall resilience.pic.twitter.com/WYachTQAdl

I get what you're saying & agree. I wonder though how this stay-home/isolation situation points out issues that make life more difficult 4 people living in multi-family situations like apartments-Staying cooped up 4 long periods with no easy access 2 outside like balconies, etc
-
Although, in a place like NYC, I can imagine that level of density itself would easily create a crowd situation whenever folks just want to get some fresh air.

Indeed. SF is a high density city. Bu they put shelter in place order early on the stage and the spreads definitely get slow down. We need more restrictions otherwise the whole state will be over.

Agreed. In my urban metro, we talk abt “balanced development.” BUT, residents have to fight for it daily. It means affordable housing & offsetting pop density (high rises, skyscrapers) with open, PUBLIC green space & respecting natural ecosystems (flora, fauna, rivers, lakes).

I'd caution you on the term density. It is a lack of public space big enough to allow all those who need to use it to do so safely. The issue is space.
