Put me down as someone who thinks Bloomberg 2020 will show how few votes money can buy. (Ask Tom Steyer! Or Jeb Bush!) http://crystalball.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/the-democratic-race-biden-2020-as-romney-2012/ …pic.twitter.com/aanhBgJLtw

Fair points from @ClaytonNall and @MattGrossmann. No question Bloomberg > Steyer. He'll get a look at some point. But he wasn't a Democrat and has a long record that is way out of step with the base so I don't expect it to ultimately amount to much.pic.twitter.com/pR2EpJKkbS

All depends on whether he gets Trump-like celebrity treatment from the media going forward, or basically disappears from the Dec debate through South Carolina. Old media norms would suggest the latter.

Bloomberg spent $174 per vote in winning the 2009 mayoral race. At that rate, 66 million votes (Hillary's total) would cost him $11.5 billion. https://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/28/nyregion/28spending.html … https://twitter.com/BrendanNyhan/status/1202573678824820736 …

Does this mean that you are also not concerned about Trump's fundraising advantage in the general election (assuming he has one)?

it can certainly matter on the margin if the election is close enough and fundraising gap is big enough, but the $->votes relationship is much weaker than many people suppose. that's only point I'm making

I'm more bullish on Bloomberg. I don't expect a win, but he's moving up in polls & getting much more free media than Steyer (& better than Jeb) & advertising with no oppo in many states. If media still wants to portray him as a contender after skipping early states, he will be.

The real question: if the choice is Biden or Bloomberg, for whom would you vote? Look Biden's a shaky "safe" choice (not as strong as Kerry or Romney) & so, if on Super Tuesday, it is b/w Biden, Bloomberg, & a "left" candidate (Warren or Sanders), who's most appealing? Bloomberg?
