I’ve long hated the term “ally,” but couldn’t put my finger on exactly why. I’ve realized it’s because it’s a term used in war or conflict. Ally implies that everyone else who agrees with you is good while everyone who disagrees with you is the enemy.

Hopefully that is actually the case when killing people.

Had a professor in grad school who would (sarcastically) say, "When you go to war... you take anyone who will go with you!"

That makes God our ally when we receive His Son Jesus. God hates evil & those that worship it.

That’s a stretch. More applicable to the plural allies. Same root word as alien, I believe.

When in reality it's only the ones who disagree with you and also advocate incivility as opposed to discussion and debate who are the enemy.

In war, things become black and white because it’s all about survival. It is the most primal state of being.

But the U.S. has several "allies" in the middle east and elsewhere, many with which we disagree on multiple issues. So like everything else maybe there's exceptions to your rule/definition.
