The treaty was ratified by Brazil in December of 2015, after being approved both by the Senate and the Deputy Chamber. Its text, signed in 2013, was authored by Brazil, in partnership with Paraguay and Ecuador.

The Treaty of Marrakesh has been the second of its kind to be approved under the procedure foreseen in the Constitutional Amendment n° 45 in Brazil. The first one was the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
