This article is worth a re-read as it's been updated a few times now. Some key missing parts about why this man was roaming the streets have been filled in. Unfortunately, I believe this one lands on the DA's office. A few thoughts below. That’s a perfect way to frame your thread. I fully support avoiding the pitchfork mentality and knee jerk reactions. We, as voters, should keep our humanity while working to find solutions that doesn’t have this happen to others.

C'mon Neil- you're going to call this a "knee jerk" reaction? This goes on EVERYDAY and has been since
@chesaboudin has been the DA. And two people are dead - f'n dead- let that sink in buddy. Do we really need more facts about what happened here? It was a matter of time.1 reply 0 retweets 22 likes -
We can disagree on that - I get the reactions - they are born out of anger. What’s ur solution? It’s easy to get mad. We should be sympathetic, we should also think practically about how to solve them. I was talking about what
@michelletandler called the “pitchfork” reaction.4 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
"born out of anger"? You should really start paying attention to what's been going on- now for a while. Repeat offenders of 5-15x are continually being let go. I've made my solutions very clear on twitter have 100% confidence. Check them out.

Neil, will summarize here. 1) We need SF blanketed with security/surveillance cameras.
@SFPD is begging for video footage- watch townhall with@SupStefani. Instead of the irresponsible Prop A bond, which has $80M for prettying up Chinatown & Japantown Sq. 2) SFPD to significantly1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

expand inside task force to investigate ALL meaningful crime.
@sfbos just passed legislation to hire dozen(s), spend $3M a year to collect meaningless data of landlords. 3) Investigate, arrest, prosecute AND SENTENCE. You HAVE to SENTENCE to jail. I feel VERY confident that if1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

know that they will 1) likely be caught, and 2) will have to spend meaningful time in prison, crime will drop significantly – it’s not ingenious, it’s common sense.

Respectfully disagree that it’s common sense. To you perhaps but not to me and not to many here in the city either. Bunch of open questions on public surveillance - don’t believe in a police state. Also don’t want to spend more money on police without first rethinking it.

Neil, I think there's a lack of common sense among our elected officials. I don't mean to be insulting but it is common sense. Why do you think crime is on the rise in SF - 1) they're getting away with it, and 2) when they get caught there's no consequence.
