In less than 24 hours my office has received over 1,000 emails demanding that San Francisco defund the police department

cant wait to see this happen, then watch everyone scream in terror when they are repeatedly and viciously victimized because they have no one to protect them. On another note, what is the population of San Francisco? Do these 1000 clowns speak for everyone?

Defunding the police doesn’t mean police will stop existing. It means redirecting funds toward effective community policing initiatives, education, social work, and outreach to the homeless. We need to scale back our demands of police officers, cause their doing a shitty job.

For example, trained medical professionals should be responding to incidents involving drug overdoses and mental illness, not men with guns. Social workers should be responding to concerns about the homeless, not men with cuffs and vans to throw the homeless in.

Have you no life experience? You're an adult with 3rd grader suggestions.

I’m sorry, what part about trained medical professionals - who already deal with people with mental illness and drug overdoses in their medical facilities every day - responding to those exact emergencies, is a third grader suggestion?

I would just like to note that the time cops spend training for their job overall is measured in hours. Doctors, nurses, and social workers spend years honing their craft so that when someone is violently mentally ill in their hospitals, they know exactly what to do.

Social workers need a masters degree. Cops don’t even have to go to college in most places. The bottom 20% of my high school graduating class shouldn’t be handling law enforcement, let alone be given a gun.
