1/2: I respect @brandonfugal and what he’s trying to do- so this is nothing against him. But, I learned long ago first hand from being on TV that you shouldn’t trust what you see on TV- it’s not about one network or one show or MSM or Fox News or CNN or discovery or history -

2/3: It’s about the show producers- they all pretty much came out of the same “training” in LA or NYC - and they are all about “getting a reaction” and building up hype to get you to watch the show. The amount of editing, “scripting”, positioning and fakery is high.

3/3: across the board. This isn’t anything negative about the SKINWALKER ranch show in particular - in fact, I think they could be a lot more sensational if they wanted to be, but about how editingis done in these for maximum impact. Science is science and TV is entertainment.

I agree with all of this but I can't see how a proper scientific investigative documentary would ever get made. Sadly most people prefer thi of sensationalist 'live' action type of production. It's only those with a deep interest in the subject that would prefer a diff approach.

True. I think we should view tv shows as pointing out phenomenon “for further investigation” -
@BrandonFugal’s idea of setting up a website with scientific data and evidence is a good one, and having even more footage than what they edit into an episode could be worthwhile too.1 Antwort 1 Retweet 7 Gefällt mir -

Yes, good idea but it still doesn't mean that the program itself can't be produced with more scientific vigour. The producers/directors got it badly wrong and BF should insist editorial control should be given to him or someone with proper scientific documentary kudos.

Unfortunatley it’s the entertainment industry ...to do it “right “ you have to independently finance and not count on any tv networks or advertisers...but then the investors would likely lose money as it’s not exciting enough! So better to just get it out to a big audience on tv!

It requires someone to take a risk, buck the trend & produce something of suitable gravitas. I think people would actually respond positively to something more scientific & serious. The viewers' intelligence is being insulted. What's certain, is that they got this one badly wrong

I feel I took a big risk to go public, allow access to the ranch & to subject our team (me included) to this kind of scrutiny. I’m not aware of another tv effort of this magnitude focused on exploring these topics - unscripted, real people, real scientists & a very real place.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I've nothing but respect and admiration for you, your team & what you are doing. My criticisms are levelled at the producers who decided upon the style and level of content. This, to me, was to the detriment of the subject. I think viewers deserve better.

I totally appreciate & understand that. The challenge is finding the right balance & vehicle, which is near impossible. The good news is that it is a big hit, with millions of viewers every week, & stimulating dialogue & interest in these topics.

The series is entertaining, thanks for entertaining questions . The producers should add an hour prequel like what they did on Curse of Oak Island to delve into some of the events in a more scientific format.
